The Truants is a book that tries to be a slow-burning thriller but unfortunately only manages to be slow. The book is written well, with engaging and imaginative prose, but /5. The Truants is told entirely by Jess and is difficult to categorise, to the point where I would say it's just a good story, and an admirable debut by Kate Weinberg.

What begins as a group of students having fun soon twists into something else entirely as Jess realises /5(9). The Truants was the first book I finished inand though it was a different sort of story, a little hard to categorize, it definitely started off my reading year on the right path.

Note: I received an electronic copy of this book from G.P Putnam’s Sons (via Edelweiss) in exchange for me honest thoughts/5(7). Lorna is the author of The Truants, a brilliant work arguing that great artists must destroy their personal lives to create, The truants book has captured Jess’ imagination ever since she was given the book by her uncle.
